Callan’s Call for Work-Life Balance is Important

Posted on March 29, 2022August 11, 2022 by Sunday Collector

I remember as a young mum and a busy reporter sometimes lamenting the darker side of feminism. Being a mum and a professional seemed then to be a “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” proposition – you were either letting family time get in the way of work or work get in the way of family. My neice, now expecting her first child, is experiencing a similar situation. She was recently faced with a situation of either doing an arduous several months of dream-job training right around the time her baby is due or putting the training on hold so she could spend time with her soon-to-be-born daughter. “I want to do it all,” she told me.

According to Shine, former Lehman Brothers CFO Erin Callan recently wrote an opinion piece for the New York Times in which she stated that she has regrets now over trading her …

Posted on November 21, 2021August 2, 2022 by Sunday Collector

Single people also do not have to waste time mainly at work. They can get involved in youth centre acticities and become members of charity organisations.  Single people have lots of power when trying to strike a work life balance and this can lead to them becoming better people.

We all are guilty of bitching in the office ime and time again. One reason for this is the amount of time that we spend with a bunch of people we have absolutely nothing in common with, and this can be transpired into sending negative vibrations into our bodies. We have to unfortunately work as part of a team whether we like ti or not and this can produce contempt at some point. We can also become so exhausted and tired of being walked all over that it presents a problem later on.…

Five Tips to Creating Work Life Balance when Working in Student Affairs

Posted on July 23, 2021August 11, 2022 by Sunday Collector

The most challenging part of working in Student Affairs on a university campus is trying to develop a healthy work-life balance. I love my job, my coworkers and the students I advise but it’s challenging because I have to schedule activities around students’ academic classes. This means my coworkers and I not only work 9-to-5 in the office but we also have meetings after dinner and events on the weekends. As a mother, this can be hard on my family so I feel additional pressure to create a healthy work-life balance. These are five tips I have learned the hard way through my years working in this field.

Realise you don’t always have to be there

This was one of the most important lessons I learned. Since I enjoy my work, I was always on campus. It didn’t matter if I was responsible for the event, I was there. This …

A healthy work-life balance is important for every entrepreneur. There is no point in running a successful new business if you do not have friends and family to share the triumphs with. Time must be planned to participate in your favourite hobbies or else you can burn out quickly and lose your entrepreneurial drive and determination.

Entrepreneurs are non-stop, do-whatever-it-takes go-getters. And a lot of the time, the 70 hours of work put in a week outweighs the other hours devoted to sleep, family, friends, hobbies, relaxation, and exercise. So what’s the best way to achieve a work-life balance? I have developed 10 ways to help you balance out everything—from the multi-million dollar negotiation conferences to those important parent-teacher conferences:

  1. Write down what’s important to you

The first step to achieving a work-life balance is to know exactly what your priorities are. Personal coach Laura Berman Fortang, author of Now …

Finding Work and Life Balance While A Mother

Posted on June 16, 2021August 11, 2022 by Sunday Collector

Musings for a mother of four on finding a balance between work and life

We asked mother of four, Tracey, to share her perspective on juggling work and life! Here’s what she had to say:

“I am a mother of four: three boys and a girl. I am also a full-time school teacher and a wife. To tell you that balancing motherhood, wifehood and professional working life is hard would be an understatement. It takes tremendous effort and love of self, family, and what one does to muster the energy to get things done. For me, that is not the only thing that helps me keep a balance between work and life.

Having a husband who works and is empathetic to my exhaustion levels at the end of the day helps too! He helps a lot with the kids and makes sure our household is functional. I couldn’t do this …

4 Tips to Achieve Work Life Balance

Posted on May 8, 2021August 11, 2022 by Sunday Collector

Do you have a tendency to travel through life from the front seat of an expensive sports car: too fast and strict tunnel vision on the road ahead? While fast and focused can be great qualities to have when the occasion calls for it, it sometimes means missing everything else going on in the periphery.

Career success is important to many people. But unfortunately, it can come at a cost as it becomes THE priority, causing people’s personal lives to suffer. If you can relate to the constant daily grind, than perhaps these tips can also help you achieve a more balanced lifestyle.

First, it is important to understand where this feeling of “burnout” comes from. Usually, our lives are too consumed with work. You wake up, go to work, return home, go to sleep, and do it all over again. It sounds more like a shampoo routine than a …

Work Life Balance for The Small Business Owner

Posted on March 25, 2021August 11, 2022 by Sunday Collector

They always say the early bird gets the worm and this is exactly the case when it comes to work. The earlier you rise the more you’ll accomplish. It is rather amazing what you tasks you’re able to complete in the morning, before the rest of the world wakes. This way you’re able to complete necessary business practices, scheduling and other aspects of your job you need to finish off. There is no sleeping in during the work week. Sure, sleeping in 10 hours or so is great, but you just don’t have this kind of time when balancing your work with home.

The more time you’re able to devote to your work early on in the day the more you’ll be able to devote to your children and family when you arrive back home. You don’t want to be stuck sitting on the computer the entire day when you …

Is Work-life Balance a Realistic Aim in Today’s Society?

Posted on October 8, 2020August 11, 2022 by Sunday Collector

Why is Work-Life Balance So Important in Today's World?

It is said that the society we live in today runs on gears well-oiled by coffee – the drink that has become the modern-day workers’ drug. This analogy mocks the predominance of work today and how it appears to have taken over all remnants of our personal lives. Even so, achieving a balance between one’s career and one’s personal life – be it building a family, friendships or achieving personal goals – is not an unrealistic goal to strive for in the face of seemingly overwhelming odds.

Unfortunately, the odds can be particularly demanding. With the globalisation of economic activity and the increased integration of the labour force, there is an undeniable strain on all workers. Job competition on a global scale is perceived as a threat to increasing one’s work productivity or facing the dreaded O-word – outsourcing. Pressure on this scale takes a toll on workers, and it …
