Back to work

I hope you are all well and managed to have a nice break over Christmas, it’s great to be blogging again! I’ve come back to work for 2016 in style thanks to a desk makeover with West Elm. My small but mighty built in desk space was looking a little tired and unorganised, and being heavily pregnant these days, an old dining chair acting as my desk chair was not doing good things to my back. A revamp was in order and West Elm was a perfect one stop shop for me to bring some affordable sparkle and shine for the new year. You can ‘shop the look‘ here, and I also had my fave photographer Jacqui Turk visit to get these snaps to share on here.

Apartment dwelling forced me to carefully consider extra storage space when renovating our kitchen a year ago, so I incorporated tall storage cupboards to conceal all the samples that come with being an interior decorator. The very handy cupboards sit alongside a little desk nook with pocket doors that hide away the clutter when I don’t want to be thinking about work. A year on, and I’ve got to say I’m still very happy with my practical home set up.

WestElm5The first thing I updated was the uncomfortable dining chair, and the Helvetica Office Chair was exactly what the doctor ordered for my back. I love the cocooning arms and that it swivels and tilts. The quality linen upholstery also ensures it sits comfortably so close to our sofa. It’s also available in a quality premium molasses leather, which develops a vintage patina over time. Yum!

WestElms3The new desk chair is pictured here with the edgy studded velvet cushion. You’ll also notice I incorporated doors at the foot of the desk that conceal all those messy cords and powerpoints that come with an office.

WestElm7WestElm6I’m an organised gal, so somewhere I can neatly store things I need quickly is very important at my work space. The lovely high gloss lacquer finish of this range of storage have given my desk a little glam factor. I love that you can also wipe the pieces clean. Also pictured is a cute enamel mug.

WestElms2WestElm4A lamp for late night work is very important (once Sunday has gone to bed), and the addition of some fresh flowers is always nice. I’ve got to be honest and say of course blooms aren’t at my desk every week, but I do love it when the luxury is there. Pictured above is the industrial Factory Task Lamp  – I just couldn’t go past the marble, glass and brass combination, alongside the cute mini polka dot ceramic bud vase. There is also a picture of cheeky Sunday to look back at me in the solid acrylic and metal frame – which are available in different sizes.

WestElm9I’ve always got to have some sort of mood board in front of me wherever I’m working, and pictured above are some cute Christmas decorations that were available at West Elm around the festive season – check out the crazy sale on some Christmas pieces here. Also pictured with the lovely 70’s hair is my Mum!

WestElm1Speaking of sales, West Elm are offering 15% off all home office at the moment, so get shopping my friends! This little story has also been shared over on Inside Out, were you’ll also see the very cool office space belonging to florist Holly Hipwell. Holly enlisted the help of West Elm stylist Brendan Nash for her eclectic home office – it’s definitely worth checking out West Elm’s free design services.
